On An Island is one of my favorite albums and it’s firmly stood the test of time. It came out on March 6, 2006, Gilmour’s 60th birthday, and has been in heavy rotation for me ever since. It’s full of the classic Gilmour soaring guitars and great songs and it has that album vibe all the way through. The title track features Richard Wright playing Hammond organ and David Crosby and Graham Nash on backing vocals. Most of the album also has beautiful orchestrations that totally make it happen in a subtle way. The lyrics to the songs, which are really good, are mostly written by his wife Polly Samson. Anyway check it out. Worth it. Here’s a little taste…
