Dagnasterpus (a benevolent, mythical creature: part Poseidon, part Octopus and part Buddha) is the name of the band and the album that, in my opinion, is simply the best release to come out in 2021. It just rocks and the more I listen to it the better it gets.
Dagnasterpus is the funky, soulful brainchild of composer and rocker Tree Adams, the former frontman for The Hatters. As a composer he’s done the soundtracks for NCIS: New Orleans (in which music plays a huge role), Californication and many other TV shows and movies too. The album, recorded in New Orleans and Los Angeles brings those worlds together seamlessly and features an all-star line up that includes Cyril Neville (The Neville Brothers, The Meters) as well as members of Steel Pulse and DeLa Soul among others. It’s full of smooth and funky horn lines and deep percussion filled grooves, topped off by Tree’s impeccable singing and songwriting. An aural extravaganza to behold full of mystery and charm.
I highly recommend this album. You can read a super review of it here on Grateful Web and you can check out a few of the cuts below. If you stream it and like it please support the artist and buy a copy on iTunes, Amazon or whatever the digital platform of your choice is.
